Thu., Apr. 19, 2007, 9:30 pm - Trip to Glendive, Mont.

posted by Amy Brooks

The girls and I were in Glendive from April 4 - 8 to attend grandma's funeral. Myrtle was my paternal grandmother.

My grandmother's funeral service was held on April 5. The photo above was taken just following the end of the service at the grave site.  It has been more than 10 years since I've been to a funeral, and a first for the girls. I forgot how somber the funeral and burial is but immediately following comes a feeling of great relief. I guess that's the point, isn't it?

Here is the program from the service:  Myrtle (Partin) Bouchard (1924-2007)

The Glendive cemetery sits on top of a hill overlooking the city and much of the valley. My aunt Donna and her husband Darol stand next to grandma's burial plot.

Above my uncle Dennis and family gather for a photo. From left to right: Dennis, Tenya, Nicole, Carol, Joey, and Jeremy.

Here's a collage of photos from the life of Myrtle Bouchard.  In the center is a photo of Myrtle and her husband, my grandfather, Merlin.  They had three children: Dean, Donna, and Dennis.

Following the service, a luncheon was served. This was an opportunity for friends and family to reminisce.

Dean's family gather for a photo. From left to right: Rachel, Leslie, Dean, and Amy.  Don't you hate it when you blink at the wrong moment!

Here's a photo that captured more than what you see at first sight. In the center, Tenya and Nicole (Dennis' daughters) smile for a photo. On the far left, is Stacy Ruff (Donna's son).  On the far right are Dean and Rachel (Dean's daughter).

Here's a group shot of all the grandkids plus two great-grandkids.  Two other great-grandkids are were too young to attend the funeral so missed out on the fun.

Grandma was always very close with her sisters and brothers, and their children. Many of them still live in the region and were able to make the trip. It was nice to see so many folks I haven't see in more than 10 years.
