Frenchman Mountain is located east of east Las Vegas, Nevada (often called Hawaii’s ninth island). This blog is about the Brooks Family, our travels, and everyday adventures.

About this blog
For the purposes of this site, the Brooks Family includes Jeremy, Amy, Katy, and Sandra, and often covers our extended family too. Since 1998, we’ve had a family website. You can view the archives at http://brooksfamily.org/OldMainPage.htm.

How it works
This site allows users to respond to stories in the comments area. In addition, if you have an idea for a post, please feel free to attempt to write one. I’ve given system rights to family members.

About the blog image
On December 17, 2008, the Las Vegas Valley was hit with a snow storm. This photo shows of one of the peaks of Frenchman Mountain after the storm.

About Frenchman Mountain
Frechman Mountain is often refered to as Sunrise Mountain. To the north of Frenchman Mountain, sits Sunrise Mountain. If you’re in the Las Vegas Valley, the sun rises from behind Sunrise and Frenchman Mountains. Lake Mead Boulevard was laid between the two and leads to Lake Mead Recreation Area.

The mountain is a great place to hike. As you travel from the base eastwards, you travel through geological time. Fascinating stuff! Here are some useful links on the topic:

Earthquake hazards
Las Vegas has a number of fault lines in the valley. The Frenchman Mountain Fault is one of them and is the biggest and most active in the valley. Lucky us, this fault line begins about one block east of our house.
